NDYC Urges Youth to Reject Baseless Allegations Against INEC’s Yakubu

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has announced its support for Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following recent allegations targeting his leadership. In a press statement, NDYC described the accusations as “unfounded,” asserting that these attempts to discredit INEC’s leadership have become a recurring issue around election periods in Nigeria.

The NDYC emphasized the importance of INEC’s role in safeguarding free and fair elections, applauding Professor Yakubu’s dedication to integrity and transparency. The timing of the allegations, with Ondo State elections on the horizon, raised concerns within NDYC, which suggested that these tactics aim to disrupt the electoral process and mislead the public.

Calling on Nigerians to remain focused on the larger goals of democratic unity and integrity, the NDYC encouraged the public to dismiss these claims. The group also appealed to youth, urging them to be vigilant against efforts to destabilize democratic processes through misinformation. NDYC further called on political leaders and civil society organizations to support INEC’s mandate, emphasizing the need for the commission’s independence in carrying out its duties.

In closing, NDYC reaffirmed its confidence in Professor Yakubu’s leadership and encouraged him to continue his work without distraction. They expressed their belief that, under his guidance, INEC will continue to uphold Nigeria’s democratic values.
